Looking after your tyres
Your tyres are the only point of contact between your vehicle and the road, and yet far too many people neglect them – a simple oversight, but one which can have fatal consequences. The maximum depth of tread allowed by law is 8mm, with the minimum standing at 1.6mm; however, a minimum tread of 3mm is usually recommended. Illegally worn tyres are subject to a maximum fine of £2500 and three penalty points for each tyre.
It's also important to check your tyre pressure – if they're underinflated, you'll need to expend more fuel to keep your car moving, which in turn increases the emissions it produces. Overinflated tyres, meanwhile, car be very unsafe, so it's essential that you strike the right balance. Your car's manual will list the ideal tyre pressures, though it's worth bearing in mind that a car under load may require different pressures.
At DSG we understand the importance of all your car's tyres having the right depth of tread and air pressure, so we'll be glad to help you choose the right tyres and make the very best of those you already have.
