Renault unveiled a range of new models at this year’s Geneva Motor Show in March, including the eagerly-awaited production version of new Twingo, which is coming in right hand drive for the first time. It wouldn’t have been Geneva without a Renault concept car, and this year was no different. Sharing the limelight alongside Renault’s latest two creations were several new additions, including the Clio Rip Curl, Clio Renaultsport 197 F1 Team R27, Scénic Conquest, Mégane Renaultsport dCi and the Espace Tech run. A longstanding player in the small car segment, Renault has sold more than 2.4 million original Twingo’s since the model's launch in April 1993. Now for the first time UK drivers will be able to get behind the wheel of the ever-popular city car when New Twingo goes on sale in the UK in September 2007. Thanks to its chassis derived from the B-segment and a powertrain range featuring the new TCE (Turbo Control Efficiency) 100hp petrol engine, which offers class-leading performance and fuel consumption, New Twingo's superior dynamics set it apart from its predecessor. New Twingo also targets a broader, more international clientele thanks to the distinctly dynamic styling of the GT version and the robust lines of the other versions, plus the availability for the first time of right-hand drive models for the British market. New Twingo stands out as a further illustration of Renault's know-how in the domain of optimising cabin space and interior versatility, by making full use of the car’s compact dimensions (length: 3.60m). The interior is extremely modular thanks to its four independent sliding seats. Meanwhile, New Twingo's boot volume is the biggest in its segment, ranging from 165 to 285 litres (VDA) with all four seats in place and is extendable to a full 959 litres with a two-seater layout. Communicative and occupant-friendly, New Twingo features a ‘TunePoint’ Audio Connection Box which enables personal music collections stored on USB keys, portable MP3 players or iPods® to be played through the car's audio system and operated via the steering wheel-mounted controls. Twingo is also available with hands-free Bluetooth telephone controls complete with 'hold' function for safer motoring. In keeping with the "my Twingo" philosophy, buyers can customise their new car thanks to a range of decorative decals for the exterior. It was a unique opportunity to celebrate the company’s back-to-back world championship titles while offering driving enthusiasts an entry into the world of Formula 1. With its red brake calipers, new Sirius Yellow paintwork and exclusive Renault F1 Team and World Champion logos, this limited-edition Clio is instantly identifiable as Mégane Renault F1 Team’s smaller sibling. Inside, the Recaro seats and numbered plaque leave you in no doubt about the car’s unique character and serious sporting credentials. Standing purposefully on its 17-inch wheels, Clio Renault F1 Team features a ‘Cup’ chassis to generate extra performance and make it even more fun at the wheel. Scénic Conquest has been designed to help owners make the most of their leisure time. Its rugged front and rear styling resembles that of an off-roader. With its raised ride height and strengthened suspension, the chassis has been adapted to suit all kinds of terrain. Scénic Conquest is available with a choice of 2.0 16V 135hp petrol or 1.9 dCi 130hp diesel power (plus, in some markets, the 1.6 16V 110hp petrol and 1.5 dCi 105hp diesel). Its extensive range of standard equipment includes rear parking proximity sensors, alloy wheels, longitudinal roof bars and, on 2.0 16V and 1.9 dCi versions, an electronic stability program (ESP). Mégane Renaultsport dCi made its debut at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show and completed Renault’s sporting range with a high-performance diesel. Designed to make daily driving a pleasure rather than a chore, the Mégane Renaultsport dCi will appeal to those who appreciate reasonable running costs. Its 2.0 dCi 175hp engine and manual six-speed gearbox give it the kind of driver appeal worthy of the best petrol-powered sports saloons, yet it also has startling fuel economy – 6.5 litres/100km on a combined cycle. The chassis features the front and rear suspension from Mégane Renaultsport, which guarantees cutting-edge handling. A Mégane Cup chassis is available as an option, for those who seek an even more sporting manner. Espace Tech Run is a limited edition model that targets technologically-minded families. It features a triple helping of new technology: for music lovers, there’s a 4x30W MP3 compatible CD Radio with Audio Connection Box (for USB and iPod® connectivity); for cinema buffs there’s a DVD-DivX player with two seven-inch screens, one in the back of each front headrest; and movies can be heard through infra-red headphones, which are also compatible with younger passengers’ favourite console games. Espace Tech Run has a distinctive identity, with special design details both inside and out. |
